La obra “El Guardián del Agua” surge de una investigación profunda y una estancia in situ en la comunidad de Olón, Ecuador. Este proyecto artístico no nace del aislamiento, sino de la observación crítica de una realidad ambiental alarmante: la contaminación de los ríos y el mar, producto de una gestión negligente del recurso hídrico.
La pieza denuncia abiertamente el contraste entre la escasez sufrida por la comunidad local y el consumo desmedido de los grandes terratenientes, quienes acaparan el agua de manera indiscriminada, alterando el equilibrio vital del ecosistema. Desde su apertura, la propuesta se despliega a través de una simbiosis entre la palabra poética y la imagen visual. El artista no solo narra los conflictos de la zona, sino que traduce las historias recolectadas en el pueblo a una gramática corporal.
En este proceso, el intérprete se transforma en el “Guardián del Agua”, una figura arquetípica que encarna a todos los seres de la naturaleza que habitan y defienden los entornos acuíferos, simbolizando la resistencia biológica y espiritual de aquellos dispuestos a ofrendar su propia existencia para preservar la integridad de su hábitat.
En escena, el público presencia un cuestionamiento frontal sobre el uso del agua mediante la danza butoh. A través de este sistema de trabajo, el bailarín experimenta una metamorfosis constante, transitando por diversos estados del ser mediante la metáfora física.
La técnica permite una dinámica rica en matices, oscilando entre tonos suaves de fragilidad y estallidos de fuerza contenida que detonan emociones intensas en los espectadores.”El Guardián del Agua” se presenta como una obra necesaria y accesible para todas las edades, invitando a una reflexión profunda sobre la justicia ambiental y el respeto por los ciclos naturales.
“The Water Guardian” emerges from deep research and an on-site residency in the community of Olón, Ecuador. This artistic project does not arise from isolation, but from the critical observation of an alarming environmental reality: the contamination of rivers and the sea, resulting from the negligent management of water resources.
The piece openly denounces the contrast between the scarcity endured by the local community and the excessive consumption of large landowners, who monopolize water indiscriminately, disrupting the vital balance of the ecosystem. From its opening, the work unfolds through a symbiosis between poetic language and visual imagery. The artist not only narrates the conflicts of the region, but translates the stories gathered from the community into a bodily grammar.
In this process, the performer transforms into the “Water Guardian”, an archetypal figure that embodies all the beings of nature who inhabit and defend aquatic environments, symbolizing the biological and spiritual resistance of those willing to offer their own existence to preserve the integrity of their habitat.
On stage, the audience witnesses a direct questioning of water use through butoh dance. Through this working method, the dancer undergoes a constant metamorphosis, moving through diverse states of being by means of physical metaphor.
The technique allows for a dynamic rich in nuance, oscillating between soft tones of fragility and bursts of contained force that ignite intense emotions in the spectators. “The Water Guardian” presents itself as a necessary and accessible work for all ages, inviting deep reflection on environmental justice and respect for the natural cycles.
